- Tom, fitness enthusiast:

I opted to quit drinking and try to get my health better so that I could slide into my 70’s being healthy. I’m in pretty good shape health-wise, so I just felt that I wanted to give that a go.

The internet is kind of a vast wasteland of people’s opinions on what to do—you know, watching you and your fitness journey, I thought, “well, I’d reach out to you” and see what your thoughts were and that’s what I did. You’ve been able to provide a good “menu” of exercises that I think are staples and I can pick and choose. I try to keep my five, at least a day, based on what time I have. I think it’s real convenient and I’ve gotten used to them and not necessarily having to sit there and check them off—I know what I need to do.

It’s been good. It’s good having a cheerleader in a way— you know, that’s what’s one thing nice about a trainer, they’re there to support you.

It feels good, you know. It makes me feel a lot more confident so that’s a nice thing. And then, you know, going along with that, the stretching has been good. It definitely helped get the mobility—certainly I haven’t done anything in a long time. Getting that mobility back is important.

I think the time we meet together has been good because we’ve been able to go over everything and pick out new things. Early on, being able to modify the workout program to what I was feeling and what you were sensing. That was good, I appreciate it, I like it. And you’re easy to talk to—that’s the nice thing. I think you could connect with a lot of people, especially since you’re doing social media. To keep the flow going—I think you do that well.

- Alex, painter:

I found you on my page that was a video of you announcing that you were going to be hosting lessons.

I messaged you, I did some research, checked out all of your work, I loved your style.

This wasn’t my first painting session—I did dabble with oil painting a little bit and I sort of knew and was self-aware of what I needed to improve on, the things I needed to learn— basically, I knew all of the gaps that needed to be filled.

So you asked me to think about the rubric and the curriculum, what you wanted to cover throughout the entire day. I asked if you can do a 4-5h session.

I definitely wanted to cover the fundamentals of oil painting as well as composition and finally some of the techniques that you thought were very important for me to know or techniques that are unique to you that I could adopt and incorporate into my work.

It was exactly what I wanted, you were very detailed. Also, it was a very hands-on lesson. While I was painting, I wanted you to direct me and guide me what are best practices, and if you wanted to jump in with a brush and tell me what you thought would be a good suggestion, I welcomed that and that’s what happened. It was a great session.

I think what was important is that you actually taught me a new technique to how to figure out a color palette. Basically you are picking the color palette for the entire piece, the work, which was actually new to me. I thought that you’re just picking up colors as you’re painting. So that was strategic and something I had never picked up in any other place.

We talked about blocking and the techniques on how to do an underpainting. How much solvent to mix in, how much paint to mix in, all that—it was very, very helpful. I didn’t expect that you were going to cover that specifically but I’ve been learning new things each step of the way.
